Responsibilities

As Policy Officer, the successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Policy, anticipating, analyzing, and helping shape EU initiatives in energy systems: Innovative renewables, clean firm power, grids, long duration and thermal energy storage.
The responsibilities include the following tasks:
  • Monitor and analyze EU electricity market design reforms and Member States’ implementation, including capacity mechanisms, renewable support schemes (e.g. two-sided CfDs, PPAs, auctions), and state aid frameworks.
  • Conduct comparative quantitative and qualitative analysis of national electricity market structures, and policy and investment frameworks to identify best practices and regulatory gaps.
  • Provide timely and well-researched insights on energy policy, collaborating closely with FCA’s Cleantech Analyst team to integrate technical findings into policy recommendations.
  • Develop a range of policy and advocacy documents, including reports, policy briefs, and amendments, in line with FCA’s focus areas. 
  • Work with the Communications Team to develop effective messaging for policy documents and author articles, blog posts, presentations, and other relevant materials.
  • Participate in coalitions and projects related to the energy systems (e.g. EU geothermal policy)
  • Contribute to the organization of events that convene EU institutions, policymakers, innovators, and industry representatives, to advance impactful policy interventions.

Required qualifications | Expertise

  • Master’s degree in a relevant policy field such as economics, energy policy, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 3-4 years of work experience.
  • Strong expertise in EU Electricity Market Design and demonstrated experience analyzing electricity market structures across different EU Member States.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills to interpret complex technical data and translate it into policy recommendations.
  • Effective communication skills to clearly convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, with experience in preparing policy documents, presentations, and reports. 
  • Detail-oriented and able to work proactively and collaboratively in an international team and a dynamic environment, with a passion for driving positive change.
  • Excellent command of English, both oral and written.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Belgium at the time of application.

Renumeration

FCA offers a competitive salary at a level commensurate with the level of experience and allowances, including post adjustment.

Working hours | Work from home

The position allows for predominantly working from home, in or around Brussels, with access to a co-working space. Regular attendance at events in Brussels expected.

Duration of contract | Starting date

The position can be filled for two years with the intention to prolong the contract thereafter.  
The starting date would be ASAP.
